Choosing a SYSTEM
Everything you might want to know about the box N paint SYSTEMS: Pocket, V2 Small, and Medium.
What is the box N paint SYSTEM, and who is it for?
A portable, hand-crafted painting box for plein-air and studio artists who want a quick, minimal setup. It’s engineered around our box N paint STORAGE trays so you can carry fresh or leftover paint with minimum cleanup.
Pocket
Our lightest setup, built for quick sketches and color notes. Fits 8″ panels. Use on your lap, in hand, or mount to a tripod with the included bracket.
V2 Small
A balanced, do-everything pochade for daily painting. Fits 9″ panels or ¾″ canvas, works with one STORAGE Small tray. Tension-adjustable hinges (hex wrench included).
Medium
For large format or longer sessions. Fits panels up to 18″ and holds two STORAGE Medium trays. Stainless friction hinges keep the lid steady at any angle.
What makes these different from others?
Integrated STORAGE – paint stays wet, sealed, and mess-free.
Side shelves snap magnetically inside the lid—no rattling loose parts.
Deep mixing well lets you close the lid without smearing paint.
Real materials (plywood, stainless, aluminum) and zero plastic hinges.
What materials are used?
Pocket: weather-sealed grey wood
V2 Small: natural maple plywood
Medium: walnut-tone finish on oak plywood
Hardware = stainless steel, aluminum, and alloy.
How does STORAGE integrate?
Slide a box N paint STORAGE Small on V2 (or two STORAGE Medium in the Medium model). Pre-load at home, paint on location, close the lid when done, paint stays workable days later.
Components are precision-cut overseas; final sanding, finishing, and assembly happen in the USA. Each unit is hand-checked, so small variations add to its character.

What’s unique about the hinges?
Pocket & V2 Small: fixed position hinges
V2 Small: tension-adjustable hinges (hex wrench included).
Medium: stainless friction hinges—stop at any angle, no knobs.
Which tripod should I use?
All models have a ¼-20 camera-thread insert. Any photo tripod rated ≥ 6 lb works.
Are palettes or side shelves included?
• Side shelves are included with 2 for the Small & Medium; one for the Pocket.
• Palettes: glass insert included in Pocket; choose wood/glass/acrylic for V2 at checkout; Medium ships with removable acrylic-grey.
Where are the pochades made?

Using SYSTEM
Side shelves
No rattling, no loose parts. Shelves snap securely into the lid with strong magnets for transport.
Closing over wet paint
Our deep mixing well lets you shut the lid without smearing fresh color.
Tripod fit
All models use a standard ¼-20 insert. We like the Benro MeFoto Backpacker, but any sturdy tripod rated 6 lb or more will work.
Storing upright
Yes—just dock the shelves in the lid and close the latch or magnet lock.
STORAGE
What it is
A paint tray system that seals in your colors so they stay workable for days.
How long paint lasts
It depends on paint type and climate. Many artists add 2–3 drops of clove oil to the felt under the lid to slow drying—just keep it out of reach of kids and pets.
Freezing vs clove oil
Freezing stops oxidation, clove oil slows it. Both work—pick what fits your routine.
Returns and warranty
Returns
You may return unused gear within 30 days. Buyer pays return shipping. See the full policy at checkout.
Warranty
Covers defects in materials or craftsmanship. If something’s not right, email us—we’ll make it right.
Care and safety
Magnets and electronics/cards
The magnets are mounted inside the box, away from direct contact. In normal use, it’s safe to keep your pochade near phones, credit cards, or other electronics.
Cleaning the palette
Use the included scraper to lift paint cleanly from the surface, then wipe with a paper towel. Finish with your preferred solvent for a fresh start to your next session.
Finish and materials
Built from real wood plywood with stainless steel and aluminum components, every part is chosen for strength and longevity. No plastic hinges—only materials you can trust in the field and in the studio.
Orders and shipping
Build time
Each pochade is built to order in small batches. Please allow 5–7 business days for assembly, then 3–5 days for USPS in the USA or 7–14 days for international delivery.
International duties/VAT
Any import fees, duties, or VAT are the buyer’s responsibility at delivery.
Carriers
We use USPS for domestic shipments, USPS or DHL for international.
